The Witch (2025), KDrama Review : Untouchable, Know it all Danger, One sided true love: Will they join at the end?

The Witch (Manyeo), a psychological mystery K-drama that premiered on February 15, 2025, has garnered attention for its atmospheric storytelling and compelling performances. Starring Park Jin-young (GOT7) and Roh Jeong-eui, the series is based on the webtoon Manyeo by Kang Full, known for works like Moving and Light Shop.

The narrative centers on Lee Dong-jin (Park Jin-young), a data analyst who believes in patterns and probabilities, and Park Mi-jeong (Roh Jeong-eui), a woman burdened with an ominous reputation. 

Mi-jeong's life has been overshadowed by an eerie pattern of deaths and misfortunes linked to those around her. Branded a "witch" since her school days, she has chosen isolation as her way of coping. She did a great job in expressing her sorrows, through her eyes. She cant smile as she may attract some one and always they end up wounded or even dead.

The two cross paths again years after their first fleeting encounter in high school, sparking a quiet yet profound intrigue. 

Performances

  • Park Jin-young delivers a measured, understated performance as Lee Dong-jin, portraying a character who is both an observer and an outsider, threading the fine line between being socially withdrawn yet undeniably charismatic when engaged in his work. He looks the same and expresses his passionate love onesided.

  • Roh Jeong-eui embodies Mi-jeong’s burden with remarkable precision. Her brooding, almost soulless gaze, combined with her rigid body language, makes her character feel both fragile and strangely powerful. 

Cinematic Elements

The series' production enhances its eerie tone. Cinematography plays with lighting and symbolism—umbrellas shielding characters, snowflakes falling in reverse—to reinforce the show’s themes of fate and inevitability. Background music shifts from playful jazz to haunting orchestral scores, amplifying the overall mood.

Final Thoughts 

The Witch offers a slow-burning psychological mystery that delves into themes of fate and destiny. While its deliberate pacing may not appeal to all viewers, the strong performances and atmospheric storytelling make it a compelling watch for fans of character-driven narratives.
